If Cowherd only had a brain

ESPN talk show host and Chicago-hating, Collin Cowherd, recently said that Chicago's MVP point guard, Derrick Rose and Allen Iverson were essentially the same player. This coming from a man who said that star-power is more important than character. There are three major differences that Coward fails recognize, probably because he is in a mind-numbed (assuming he has a mind in the first place), starry-eyed, sychophantic suck up stupor towards all of the top stars in the three major sports. I don't believe he even considers professional ice hockey a sport.

First, Derrick Rose is humble. He is a truly likable and humble young man off the court. On court, he is a killer with a killer instinct that is rare in a kid so young; but off the court, you won't find a better, more respectful young man.

Second, Rose has a tremendous work ethic. He arrives early, leaves late, studies films and has fully accepted Coach Tom Thibodeau's work regiments and defensive philosophy. His teammates feed off of Rose's work ethic and drive. You definitely won't hear Rose skip practice, be late for practice and then later say cynically when challenged, "We're talking about practice!"

Third, and most important, Rose has character. You won't find him running around with an entourage at 3 in the morning, boozing it up in strip clubs, carrying guns and accidentally shooting himself in the butt. If Coward did that, he'd probably wind up with brain damage or at least an effective labotomy (assuming he has a brain in the first place).

Coward also has an immature habit of using extreme superlatives to make his often idiotic points. His vendetta against Rose winning the MVP is well-known and often effectively challenged by sports experts he interviews on his radio talk show. Rick Bueker recently challenged Coward's stating that no team will win with a star point guard if they don't put other stars around him. AH ... DUH! Coward stated that Isiah Thomas didn't win without Lambeer and the other Pistons. How long did it take you to figure THAT one out, Collin? Michael Jordan didn't really win either until Scotty Pippen and Horace Grant came into their own either. Very astute of you, Coward.

He continuously states that the object of his man-love obsession, Lebron James, is the REAL MVP of the league and that Derrick Rose isn't even in the top five players. Coward continuously drools over James, Dwight Howard and other NBA studs.

But Coward's use of superlatives is really annoying. He stated on his morning show that the Bulls' offense is "atrocious" if Rose isn't doing well. The Bulls won 62 games and were the winningest team in the NBA with Rose and an atrocious offense; yet, Rose isn't the league's MVP in Coward's book. Common, dorko, you can't have it both ways.

Every time Coward tries to make his points, he ALWAYS jumps to "straw man" superlative arguments (as described above) and sounds like an obnoxious civil rights lawyer or someone's irritating younger teenage brother who thinks he knows everything but is more akin to Eddie Haskel than anyone else. Wasn't it the Scarecrow who didn't have a brain?

Funny how the Miami Heat had superstars James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh and they couldn't even secure the top seed of the Conference. That means that Derrick Rose must be better than James, Wade and Bosh put together, since the Bulls offense was so atrocious without Rose. Funny also, that the Heat didn't beat the Bulls during the regular season, either. Go figure!
